Finding your way home......

Updated: Jul 19, 2019

Summer time..... The time of year we kick back, enjoy a shorter season (in Upstate New York) of hot weather, sunshine and vacationing to beautiful beaches. It feels like a reward after enduring cold winters and lots of snow!

Summer is also a time to be a little more relaxed and to recharge your internal battery.

Recently while away at Rehoboth Beach in Delaware, while taking a morning beach walk with my family, my daughter noticed a rather large object moving in the sand. It wasn’t too long before others noticed and gathered around to see what this unusual sea creature was. It was a Horseshoe Crab that washed up on to the shore.

It was crawling around and seemed to be trying to find its way back to the ocean.

Just like the Horseshoe Crab, sometimes we as humans lose our way. It may be we are overwhelmed with life, unhappy in a job, stuck in a place of discontentment or maybe life has not gone as planned. Everyone in life has obstacles to get over - some people know how to get over them on their own while others may need a little help. Recognizing where you need to make change is the first step in healing and moving forward. Always remember, we need those “harder times” in life in order to grow. If life were perfect and nothing ever went wrong, there would be no purpose and no lessons learned. Sometimes, losing our way takes us on a path to better places. We have to learn to let go, trust in our faith and change our mindset to making it all happen.

Losing your way does not mean you are lost - for most, it simply means you are just trying to find a better path to your way home.

As for the Horseshoe Crab? A kind beach attendant recognized that the crab needed help finding his way back to the water, so he gently lifted him out of the sand with a shovel and set it free into the ocean......where it thrives and belongs.
